Representative imageStatic Compensators (STATCOM)
A STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is a shunt-connected FACTS device that uses an IGBT voltage-source converter to generate a controllable three-phase voltage in phase with the AC system.
Overview
A STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is a shunt-connected FACTS device that uses an IGBT voltage-source converter to generate a controllable three-phase voltage in phase with the AC system. By making its internal voltage higher or lower than the grid voltage it supplies (capacitive) or absorbs (inductive) reactive power (VARs) almost instantly, regulating the voltage at the point of connection. Its control is extremely fast, dynamically changing the magnitude and phase of the generated voltage in milliseconds. Buyers choose a STATCOM for dynamic reactive-power compensation, voltage stabilisation, flicker control and power-quality correction on rapidly fluctuating loads where conventional capacitor banks are too slow.
Specifications
