A thyristor PFC (power-factor-correction) switching module is a solid-state alternative to electromechanical contactors for switching capacitor steps in dynamic/real-time APFC panels.
Overview
A thyristor PFC (power-factor-correction) switching module is a solid-state alternative to electromechanical contactors for switching capacitor steps in dynamic/real-time APFC panels. Contactors draw very high inrush current when energising capacitors and wear out; the thyristor module switches each capacitor at the voltage/current zero-crossing, giving transient-free, near-instant (a few milliseconds) switching, no inrush surge, silent operation and far longer service life. ACE offers two variants — Zero Current Crossing and 'ACE Precise Zero Current Crossing' — and recommends use with detuned reactors for optimum results in harmonic-rich networks. Buyers choose these modules for fast, frequent, wear-free capacitor switching in dynamic loads where contactor-based PFC cannot keep up.
