The IGBT PWM front end gives high input power factor and low THD (downsizing the upstream AC supply), while closed-loop control provides proper multi-stage charging — bulk/boost (high current), absorption (constant voltage) and float (maintenance) — so the battery is charged quickly and then held without overcharge, extending battery life.
